Mike has been a musician since age 10 and has a degree in Music Business from DePauw University. As a trombonist, he played in every band, orchestra, jazz and wind ensemble that would have him, and still made time for choir, barbershop quartet, musical theater and the varsity bowling team. Recently, he made good on years of threats and broke out the trombone again. Who says you're too old to be in a marching band?

Mike bought his congas in 1996 and began playing with members of the Jersey shore jamband thE otheR waY. He also teamed with tap guitarist Ray Ashley to form the 9-Volt Smoke Detectors. He moved with his wife Donna to Portland in 2000 and soon met Scott Hewitt in a room full of former New Jerseyans.

Although he has not yet contributed to the band as a songwriter, Mike's colorful percussion, harmonies and musical instincts have helped define the Mystic Canyon sound.
